Boston 4 Washington 1 Final
Boston had a great night from their top line as the Boston Bruins have pushed the Capitals to the brink and they face elimination. Charlie McAvoy had three assists, David Pastrnak had a goal (1) and assist, while Charlie Coyle (1), Matt Grzelyck (1), and Brad Marchand (3) also scored for the Bruins. Tuukka Rask made 19 saves in the win. Boston was 3/5 on the power play (Grzelyck, Marchand, and Pastrnak each scored on the power play), and also had 34 hits and 37 shots. The only lineup change was for Washington as Lars Eller now healthy replaced Daniel Carr. Alex Ovechkin (2) was the lone goal scorer for the Capitals. Alex Ovechkin has a four game point streak (2G-2A-4P). Ilya Samsonov made 33 saves in the loss. Washington was 1/7 on the power play (Ovechkin had the PPG), and also had 38 hits and 20 shots. My thoughts: this was the first non overtime game and I really did think Washington would have played better but Boston looks like the better team and they are nearing clinching the series. Boston leads best of seven series 3-1, Game 5 Sunday at 4:00.
Nashville 5 Carolina 4 Final/2OT
Nashville was able to avoid a 3-0 hole in the series with a close tight hard fought win that gets them a win away from tying the series. Ryan Ellis (1) and Filip Forsberg (2) each had a goal and assist, Roman Josi had two assists, while Ryan Johansen (1), Mikael Granlund (1), and Matt Duchene (1) who got the OT winner also scored for the Predators. Jusse Saros made 52 saves in the win. Nashville was 1/7 on the power play (Mikael Granlund had the PPG), and also had 33 hits and 54 shots. Each team made lineup changes for Nashville Calle Jarnkrok who is healthy, Nick Cousins, and Ben Harpur replaced Victor Arvidsson who is injured, Brad Richardson, and Erik Gudbranson and for Carolina Maxime Lajoie who made his playoff debut replaced Jake Gardiner. Sebastian Aho had a goal (3) and two assists, while Jordan Staal (3), Brett Pesce (1), and Vincent Trocheck (1) also scored for the Hurricanes. Alex Nedeljkovic made 49 saves in the OT loss. The Hurricanes were 1/3 on the power play (Vincent Trocheck had the PPG), and also had 32 hits and 56 shots. My thoughts: I was positive that Jusse Saros play would give the Predators at least one win in the series and just as I said they won, but I think Carolina will come out firing next Game to try to put Nashville on the brink of Elimination. Carolina leads the best of seven series 2-1, Game 4 Sunday at 11:30.
Winnipeg 1 Edmonton 0 Final/OT
Winnipeg has suprised a lot of people including myself as they have not only won twice over Edmonton in Edmonton but they have kept Draisaitl and McDavid off of the score sheet in both games. Paul Stastny (1) had the overtime winner and was the lone goal scorer for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck made 38 saves in the shutout and the win. Winnipeg was 0/2 on the power play, and also had 52 hits and 36 shots. There was only one lineup change and it was for Winnipeg as Pierre Luc Dubois made his series debut replacing Kristen Vesalainen. Edmonton was shutout in a playoff game for the first time since Game 3 of the first round in the 2017 playoffs. Mike Smith made 35 saves in the OT loss. Edmonton was 0/3 on the power play, and also had 37 hits and 38 shots. My thoughts: I did think that Winnipeg would put up a fight but I absolutely did not think that Winnipeg would hold Edmonton to one goal in two games and that McDavid and Draisaitl would not have a point but there is a reason Hellebuyck won the Vezina trophy last year and he is sjowing it. Winnipeg leads the best of seven series 2-0, Game 3 Sunday at 4:30.
Colorado 5 St.Louis 1 Final
Colorado is on the brink of advancing to the second round of the playoffs thanks to solid defense and Nathan Mackinnon. Ryan Graves had a goal (1) and two assists, Alex Newhook (1) who scored his first NHL goal, Tyson Jost (1), J.T Compher (1), and Brandon Saad (2) also scored for the Avalanche. Mikko Rantanen (0G-10A-10P) and Gabriel Landeskog (2G-7A-9P) each have a five game point streak. Philipp Grubauer made 31 saves in the win. The Avalanche were 0/4 on the power play, and also had 20 hits and 26 shots. Each team had lineup changes for Colorado Carl Soderberg replaced Nazem Kadri who served the first game of his suspension while for St.Louis Justin Faulk and Robert Bortuzzo who are both injured were replaced by Steven Santini and Mitch Reinke who both made their playoff debut. Tyler Bozak’s short handed goal (1) was the lone goal for the Blues. Jordan Binnington made 21 saves in the loss. The Blues were 0/3 on the power play (Bozak scores short handed), and also had 46 hits and 32 shots. My thoughts: Colorado has been dominant and in Game three it was their depth scoring as the Mackinnon line only registered 2 assists as young players like Newhook and Jost were the people scoring. Colorado leads best of seven series 3-0, Game 4 Sunday at 2:00.
