Andrew Mangiapane (5G-1A-6P), Matthew Tkachuk (6G-3A-9P), and Johnny Gaudreau (1G-9A-10P) all finished with 5 game point streaks. Jacob Markstrom made 19 saves in his 16th start in the last 17 games. Playoffs

Boston 3 Washington 2 Final/OT

Boston and Washington again went to overtime just showing how even these two teams are and the OT winner was for Craig Smith as he took advantage of a rare mistake on the Caps part. Craig Smith had a goal (1) the OT winner and a assist, while Brad Marchand (2) and Taylor Hall (2) also scored for the Bruins. David Pastrnak’s six game point streak. Tuukka Rask made 25 saves in the win. Boston was 1/5 on the power play ( Brad Marchand had the PPG), and also had 60 hits and 43 shots. Washington made three lineup changes first Ilya Samsonov who played his first game since MAY 1 and being activated off of the COVID list replaced Craig Anderson who was backup, injured forward Lars Eller was replaced by Evgeny Kuznetsov who played for the first time since being activated off of the COVID list, and Daniel Carr replaced Daniel Sprong. Alex Ovechkin (1) and Nic Dowd (2) both scored for the Capitals. Ilya Samsonov made 40 saves in his first NHL playoff game and loss. Washington was 1/5 on the power play (Alex Ovechkin had the PPG), and also had 57 hits and 37 shots. My thoughts: Washington is behind in the series but each game has gone to overtime and they have been evenly matched but if Washington wants to win the series they are going to have to be on the right side of the puck. Boston leads the best of seven series 2-1, Game 4 Friday at 3:30.

Carolina 3 Nashville 0 Final

Carolina has a two game lead thanks to the huge play of Alex Nedeljkovic and Sebastian Aho despite the great play of Juuse Saros. Sebastian Aho scores twice (2) and Warren Foegele (1) also scored for the Hurricanes. Alex Nedeljkovic made 32 saves in the win and his first playoff shutout. The Hurricanes were 1/3 on the power play (Sebastian Aho’s first was the PPG), and also had 52 hits and 31 shots. Carolina had one lineup change as Jacob Slavin who is injured was replaced by Jake Gardiner and for Nashville Elli Tolvanen, Brad Richardson, and Matt Benning replaces Calle Jarnkrok (non COVID illness), Mathieu Oliver and Ben Harpur. Nashville was shutout for the first time in a playoff game since Game 5 of the 2017 Stanley cup Final. Juuse Saros made 28 saves in the loss. Nashville was 0/7 on the power play, and also had 39 hits and 32 shots. My thoughts: this is precisely what I thought would happen in this series the Canes offense is to good and their goaltender stands tall, but now with the series shifting to Nashville the Predators are going to be desperate to get a win. Carolina leads the best of seven series 2-0, Game 3 Friday at 4:00.

Winnipeg 4 Edmonton 1 Final

Connor Hellebuyck held McDavid and Draisaitl off the board and a timely goal from Dominic Toninato gives Winnipeg a surprising game 1 victory. Blake Wheeler (1) and Kyle Connor (1) each had a goal and assist, Mark Scheifele and Nate Thompson each had two assists, while Tucker Poolman (1) and Dominic Toninato (1) also scored for the Jets. Mark Scheifele has a six game point streak (2G-8A-10P) and Kyle Connor has a four game point streak (5G-3A-8P). Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves in the win. Winnipeg did not have a power play, and also had 68 hits and 22 shots. Jesse Puljujarvi, Dominik Kahun, Ryan McLeod, Kristian Vesalainen, and Logan Stanley all made their Playoff debuts. Jesse Puljujarvi (1) was the lone goal scorer for the Oilers. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl’s eight game point streak ended. Mike Smith made 18 saves in the loss. The Oilers were 0/1 on the power play, and also had 50 hits and 33 shots. My thoughts: I really did think that McDavid would be productive from the start but credit Winnipeg and Hellebuyck for holding down the fort and they should expect McDavid to come out firing in Game 2. Winnipeg leads the best of seven series 1-0, Game 2 Friday at 6:00

Colorado 6 St.Louis 3 Final

Colorado keeps on firing and I don’t think anyone will be stoping Nathan Mackinnon as the Avalanche head to St.Louis with the series lead. Nathan Mackinnon has a hat trick (3,4 and 5) and a assist, Jonas Donskoi had two goals (1 and 2) and a assist, Devon Toews, Mikko Rantanen, and Gabriel Landeskog each had two assists, while Brandon Saad (1) also scored for the Avalanche. Mikko Rantanen (0G-9A-9P) and Gabriel Landeskog (2G-6A-8P) each have a four game point streak. Philipp Grubauer made 32 saves in the win. The Avalanche were 2/2 on the power play (Jonas Donskoi’s 2nd and Nathan Mackinnon 1st each had a PPG), and also had 19 hits and 35 shots. Neither team had any changes to their lineup. Torey Krug had two assists, while Mike Hoffman (1), Brayden Schenn (1), and  Sammy Blais (1) all scored for the Blues. Jordan Binnington made 29 saves in the loss. St.Louis was 1/2 on the power play (Brayden Schenn had a PPG), and also had 26 hits and 35 shots. My thoughts: what I thought would happen is happening Nathan Mackinnon is leading the Avalanche charge and St.Louis can’t stop him. They go back to St.Louis with one thing they need to do win Game 3 and get themselves back in the series. Colorado leads the best of seven series 2-0, Game 3 Friday at 6:30.
