 NHL Trade Rumors and News

Hello Everyone I will try to keep up with all the news and watch my blog Monday morning as I will be live updating trades as best I can

Saturday

Trade Alerts

            Tampa Bay                       Detroit          Columbus

David Savard (75% retained)   2021 4RD        2021 1RD

      Brian Lashoff                                               2022 3RD

Analysis: one of the biggest names is off the board with Tampa acquiring Savard. It is complicated but basically it is broken into three parts Part 1 [Detroit acquires David Savard from Columbus with 50% of his salary eaten for Brian Lashoff] Part 2 [Tampa Bay acquires David Savard after Detroit also eats 50% of his salary for a 2021 4RD pick] Part 3 [to complete the trade Columbus sends Brian Lashoff to Tampa Bay for Tampa’s 2021 1RD and 2022 3RD pick]. Tampa Bay first as they got the main piece In David Savard. He was a very sought after piece and improves Tampa’s Staley cup chances. Savard will play in the top four maybe with Victor Hedman or Mikhail Sergachev he has (1G-5A-6P) in 40 games played and caries a ($1.06 Million 75% retained in the trades UFA). As for Brian Lashoff has not played in the NHL this year is a minor league player and caries a ($.700 Thousand UFA). For Columbus they get a couple of draft picks for trading away a prime trade target. The 2021 1RDpick this year is the better of the two but the 2022 3RD pick for next year is not half bad at all. As for Detroit for retaining 1.06 Million of his contract as a third party they get a 2021 4RD pick to use at this years draft.

   Colorado                      San Jose

Deven Dubnyk             Greg Pateryn

                                        2021 5RD

Analysis: the Avalanche get their backup goalie and it’s from San Jose. Deven Dubnyk a name that was out there is now a member of the Avalanche. Dubnyk will take a lot of pressure off of Grubauer’s back now that they have a solid backup goalie. Pavel Francouz was supposed to be the backup but hasn’t played this year due to injury. The Avalanche used rookie Hunter Miska and acquired Jonas Johansson from Buffalo in early March but neither worked out. Dubnyk has a (3.18 GAA and .898 SV%) in 17 games and caries a ($2.16 Million UFA). As for the Sharks they get some Draft capital with the 5RD pick this year and get Greg Pateryn who was traded early in the year by Minnesota. He never really played with Colorado and will most likely play with San Jose as a 7th D-Men and could play with Vlasic still injured. He has (0G-2A-2P) in 11 games played and caries a ($2.25 Million UFA).

      Florida                              Buffalo

Brandon Montour               2021 3RD

Analysis: Florida uses their cap space to good use in this trade. Brandon Montour is a great top 4 D-Men and can help soften the blow of losing Ekblad for the season. Brandon Montour plays on the right side and could play on the second pair with Mackenzie Weegar the spot witch Ekblad had. Montour has (5G-9A-14P) in 38 games played and caries a ($3.85 Million Cap Hit UFA). As for Buffalo they probably wanted a second round pick but had to settle for a 3rd round pick instead and they will probably be doing more deals before the deadline.

Cleared Waivers

Kyle Turris

Paul Byron

Ken Appleby

Clark Bishop

Nikita Gusev: who now becomes a UFA

Placed on Waivers

Colton Sceviour ($1.2 Million UFA)

Juuso Riikola ($1.15 Million 1Year Left)

Friday

Trade Alerts

 Toronto                                Columbus

Riley Nash                          Con 2022 7RD

Analysis: this trade caught me by suprise yesterday as Riley Nash was unlikely to move because of injury. Riley Nash is injured for the next 4-6 weeks and will miss the regular season but should be back for the playoffs and that is why Toronto acquired him to be a physical fourth line forward in the playoffs if he can get back from injury. He had (2G-5A-7P) in 37 games played and caries a ($2.75 Million UFA). As for Columbus the pick will change from 7th to 6th if Nash plays in 25% of Toronto’s playoff games, they get a small pick on an asset that was not going to play this year for Columbus.

Colorado                                       Detroit

Patrick Nemeth (50% retained)  2022 4RD

Analysis: Colorado gets a much needed boost at defence with this acquisition. Patrick Nemeth played two seasons in Colorado before he signed with Detroit so he is familiar with the team. Nemeth is currently dealing with a minor injury has (2G-6A-8P) in 39 games played and caries a ($1.5 Million with Detroit retaining 50%) . Nemeth will probably take the spot Ian Cole had before being traded to Minnesota as Bowen Byram was supposed to be there but is dealing with injury’s and COVID. As for Detroit they get draft capital for a pending UFA and start selling off pieces.

Placed on Waivers Friday

Paul Byron

Kyle Turris

Clark Bishop

Nikita Gusev: with the intent to terminate his contract.
